LEADERSHIP

SINCE 1969

Ms.Kumari Fernando-Chairperson

Chairperson Kumarie Fernando’s remarkable journey is a testament to her unyielding commitment to excellence. With a distinguished academic background in law, including a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the University of San Francisco, USA (2005) and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the esteemed University of West London (2017), further undergraduate studies in LLB at the prestigious University of London (2021), she has consistently demonstrated academic excellence. She also pursued her Barrister Qualification from BPP University, Holborn, UK, in 2023.

From an early age, Kumarie discovered her passion within the boatyards and showrooms her father introduced her to. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to attain a Business Administration degree in the United States, culminating in her graduation in 2005.

In the same year, Kumarie embraced the role of Director within Neil Marine, overseeing the realms of Imports & Exports, Audit, and IT Governance. Her relentless dedication propelled her to become a Lloyd’s Register Approved UK ISO QMS Certified Lead Auditor in Mumbai, India, where she steered critical audits at our prestigious boatyard.

From there onwards, she assumed the pivotal responsibility of supervising the Imports and Export audits and IT governance functions across our entire group comprising a total of 12 companies. Her supreme expertise and leadership played an instrumental role in fueling our growth and success.

In 2017, Kumarie achieved another significant milestone by completing her LLM at the University of West London, further enhancing her already impressive academic achievements.

The zenith of Kumarie’s journey unfolded in 2021 when she ascended to the position of Chairperson of the Penthouse Group. Her leadership during one of Sri Lanka’s most challenging periods exemplifies her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination.

In Kumarie’s own words:
“Know your challenges, identify them, and take each step deliberately. Recognize that there’s only so much you can control. Step back, address each challenge one at a time, and always remind yourself that you can only do so much. But always remember to take calculated risks.”
